1st Abram Cub Scout, John-Joe started walking during lockdown as part of his Personal Challenge award, and absolutely smashed his target. Not satisfied with that, he decided to go the extra mile (quite literally), and set himself a new target, and this time for fundraising.

Inspirational young man

John-Joe was born at 27 weeks gestation, 13 weeks early! Being so premature, John-Joe was very poorly, weighing in at just 3lbs, having chronic lung disease and a hole in the heart, in addition to other complications. A tough ask for something so small to fight so hard.

Whilst in hospital, it was a difficult time for mum and dad, of course. Having spent hours and days in hospital, not been sure if they would have a little boy to take home, what they needed most was care and support. This, in addition to the care and support that John-Joe needed, was provided with selfless dedication by the staff at Wigan’s Neonatal Unit.

The whole family are involved

All the care, and all the support paid off, and John-Joe battled to live, a fighter from his first breath, this inspirational young man is now fighting again, but this time for your support.

Wigan’s Neonatal Unit are in need of help to fund a new Parent’s Room, to help make parent’s lives more comfortable, and so John-Joe has stood up to act!

John-Joe is now 3 weeks into his 4 week challenge, to walk or cycle 200km in 4 weeks and is doing so well! He’s battling on through aches and pains, beating blisters and soldiering forward, and we reckon he’s going to smash his 200km target, and add on some extras.

Not only is John-Joe pushing this target, he’s giving Dad (James), a run for his money, while Mum (Antonia) and Sister (Poppy) are getting in on the act too!

At the time of writing, John-Joe is just £115 off his £1000 target. If you can, dig deep, and let’s encourage him to smash his 200km target, by blowing the roof off his £1000 target.
